What you really wanted to achieve in your writing career? Here’s a run-down of some of my personal #authorgoals and how I achieved some of it, how I wanted to achieve more and how I want YOU to achieve yours. Remember…supporting other’s success won’t ever dampen yours.
Goal 1: Get Published:
You wrote something. You're a writer. But to become a published writer takes more than getting your thoughts on paper. You better start building your fanbase/readership if you are planning to get published whether trad or indie. In this digital world massive following is now one of the requirements and a factor to your success. By joining Wattpad, Radish or SwoonReads, they are read/write sites, you can build an empire. By putting your words out there, you are honing your craft. By continuously writing you are perfecting your style and polishing your grammar. Once you get out in the real world, you are ready my friend.
Goal 2: Get more readers/followers:
When I started writing, I’ve joined read/write sites like Wattpad, Booksie, Autonomy, WriteOn etc. Being involved in these communities widen my fanbase. I tried to update my stories frequently. The more I write, the more exposure. I’ve joined books clubs when it was still. Outside Wattpad, I’ve joined several giveaways to kickstart my FB author page. I connected and reached out to other authors. I joined FB groups where I can showcase my works too. It’s all about connection rather slapping people with buy links all the time.
Goal 3: Get more subscribers: How? By Building you Newsletter/
Building Newsletter - How exactly do you do this? - You create a sign up form that you can embed on your website or post on your social media platforms. Go to my website ysaarcangel.com and wait for the pop up form or click the SIGN UP button or. It'll take you to the landing page where readers can subscribe. To start with, you need to create a MailChimp, Mailerlite, Mailjet or MadMimi account. They are some of the most used newsletter providers. I am using Mailerlite, MailChimp, Mailjet right now, my subscribers are distributed to those newsletter providers. Mailerlite is somehow cheaper than MailChimp that’s why I uploaded the big chunk of my subs on Mailerlite.
Grow you list- When you say grow your list, you mean have my own list that I add to every time, right? Building a newsletter is the first step, next is growing that list. You need not add every time because the emails will be automatically added on your list once they subscribe. If you are joining any giveaways, that's the time you need to import the emails.
How do you sell to the list? Or you mean people on the list are the ones who buy your books? My emails are mostly about Giveaways, Freebies, Discounts, New Release... etc. where my subscribers can easily click on the link whether to join, download or buy. My newsletter subscribers are avid readers. Most of my sales came from them, mostly ebooks and KU page reads.
I am looking forward to earn and maintain my sales at around 2k$ monthly. How will you earn this, from direct sales or something else?.Send the newsletter to your subscribers and let the cash trinkle in! If you have a massive list and offered a discounted rate on one of your books, let's say 0.99$ x 25k subscribers, that's helluva approx 25,000$, half is still 12k$! Seriously! but NOT ALL THE TIME. The trick is to offer giveaways and FREEBIES. Give the readers what they want for them to stay or else they will unsubscribe. All of my subscribers get a freebie when they join...a freebie no one else gets! Your newsletter subscribers are your readers that are ready to meet you, get to know you. It should be this magical connection. I get quite a bit of interaction on my email sequence. It's not all about selling hardcore.
Goal 4: Be an idol.
I’ve always wanted to inspire people. Writing career wise, I still have so much to learn. Do not add people on the group without permission. Do not add a friend then ask to read your book. Do not message a stranger and ask to read your stuff outright. Just continue what you do best. Just write and connect to people. Be kind and sensitive to others. Everyone, be an idol not an a$$hole.
Goal 5: Get Reviews
For my fellow published author, one of my mentors gave me this tip that I’m planning to apply on my next release.
Do a secret release among your street/review team. The next day of the release, set your book to FREE (if you’re on KU)
Reviews are verified. You’ll have thousands of downloads that will substantially carry on after the FREE days are up.
That’s a tried and tested trick.
Goal 6: Get Sold.
Simple, learn the craft, improve your style and when you get published…publish more. That’s how you’ll stay.
I hope you enjoyed reading my post! Thanks for dropping by everyone!
Before I go, I have an announcement to make.
My short story is part of this anthology. 20+ Filipino authors have come together to bring you a year of romance you can devour in one sitting.Themed around holidays and celebrations, hopping across different genres with a whole lot of romance thrown in, overwhelming with emotion and holiday spirit connected by that thing called LOVE AND HAPPY EVER AFTERS.
I wrote about the warmth and joy of Christmas. You'll surely love the sweet heart melting romance between Trevor and Monique.

Ysa Arcangel, in real life, is a Spanish-speaking GDS consultant and mother to three amazing kids. Her alter ego is an attention-seeking, hopeless romantic Filipino author who melts over tattooed heroes with six-pack abs. Underneath her rhino-like exterior lies layers of insecurities. She is a perpetual doubter of her own creations but extremely proud of her work. This alter ego is extroverted and a social media junkie. And, just like in real life, a coffee addict.
She is the author of Underneath It All and Love at First Sit. She has also written an urban fantasy novella, Nexus Series Book 1: Anathema. She is based in Manila and is a loving partner to a very talented chef. She is also a fan of tattoos, a lover of giant dogs, and an enthusiast of extreme sports.
