Drunken brawls. One-night stands. No-show interviews. Toilet-papering my hoity-toity neighbor’s house. Insulting my fans. Trashing hotel rooms. What’s it take to become public enemy number one? I just told you. I’ve done all that and more. My poor conduct got me on the Celebs Behaving Badly list and ultimately ruined my career. From the world’s number-one popstar to world’s most hated. That’s me. Ten Stark. Go underground, they said. Stay out of the spotlight. Most importantly, stay out of trouble. Everyone loves a good comeback story. For once, I listened. I met someone who didn’t know my name, my face, or the bad behavior that defined me. She taught me I wasn’t who everyone thought I was—everyone including me. Then someone whispered my name and things got messy, as they always do. Now I want her back. I’m not a caterpillar, but a butterfly. My wings are in full color, not just black and white. But first, I have to shed my cocoon and fly.
Aerie Boone is a toad. At least according to every news outlet and online hater imaginable.
Accusations of lip-syncing. Rumors of being dropped by my label. Reports of celebrity feuds and rivalries. And then there's my personal favorite... The pending annulment of a marriage I can't even remember agreeing to. When you're the sweetheart of country music, being a headline is a given. Living the headline is more of an uninvited surprise. I'm barely recognized for the massive success I've had. Now I'm famous because people love to hate me. I'm a public enemy, but no one knows my side of the story. I'm beginning to think it doesn't even matter. I'm burned out, hurting, and everyone thinks I have warts. Ew. Becoming a shut-in is exactly what the doctor ordered. Too bad my label has other ideas. They send me a solution... In the form of a red-haired, green-eyed man who wears sarcasm like armor. I don't want a stranger in my house. I don't want Nate. All I want is to go back to a time when I wasn't a toad. When I was country music's princess. But going back is impossible. Moving forward will change everything.
It’s not often I do an actual review a book, let alone a series. Usually, my interest wans after the first book because authors can sometimes lose the magic that drew me into that first book. Sometimes, though, a series is so good, it grabs you and makes you pay attention.
That’s what happened to me with this series. The characters pulled me in and that magic followed them throughout both books in this series.
Butterfly was in a word, beautiful.
There are stories that make you cry, make you laugh, make you feel things that other books just can’t. Violet and Ten bring out all that and more as you read. You find yourself rooting for the guy who destroyed himself and his career because he was an ass. You watch as he figures out who he was, who he is, and who he wants to be. You see how love changes him into a better version of himself. He grows right before your eyes from a caterpillar into a butterfly.
All because of Violet, the girl who is unassuming and dealing with her own demons. She has an illness that could define her, but she doesn’t let it. She strives to not let it beat her, even on her worst days, she has a strength that defies everything. That’s the girl who met Ten, the boy who had hit rock bottom and had nowhere to go.
They work through so very much, overcome obstacles and lies, a past that will never truly leave Stark aka Ten alone.
But they found a love that defies the odds and warms the heart. It teaches us that if you believe, love truly does conquer all.
This book will move you to tears. It’s truly amazing.
Toad was in a word heartfelt.
Nate…what can I say? He won me over in Butterfly with his obsession with Fruity Pebbles and his laid back, easy going attitude. He’s not drop dead gorgeous, he’s not rich. He’s just your average guy that wins you over with his charm and loyalty to those he loves. He’s the kind of character I wish more books had. The hero doesn’t have to be uber gorgeous or a billionaire. They just need to be honest and real.
Nate and Aerie’s story charmed me. At first I was not a fan of Aerie’s but as the book progressed and her layers were peeled away, you saw the shy girl who had been burned by so many people, who’d lost so much that she built a wall around her that was hard to crack. But Nate? Who can’t love a guy who laughs and downs an entire bowl of Fruity Pebbles in one sitting?
The obstacles they overcame brought them together and built a bond that lasts a lifetime. The princess of country music falls for the charming side kick instead of one of the beautiful people. But that doesn’t sound right to me, though. Nate is a beautiful person. He may not be your normal HOT hero, but he is beautiful. His heart is pure and he’s loyal to a fault. Add in his charm, his personality, and he’s exactly the kind of guy a girl would be lucky to fall for, Fruity Pebbles obsession and all.
This is my favorite of the two…well, Nate stole the show in Butterfly so of course I had to say he’s my favorite J He’s my new favorite book boyfriend!
So I urge you all to go out and download this series. It’s more than worth it. I promise you’ll have a hangover for days!
