Who's afraid of ghosts? Not Piper Lancaster, because even though she's a ghost whisperer, she's a skeptic. Piper helps her clients settle their inner demons, and that's good enough for her-even if ghosts aren't real.
That is until the astonishing reappearance of the ruins of the Lost Colony of Roanoke turns her world upside down. Now belief in the supernatural is at an all-time high, and people are seeing ghosts in every shadow.
There's one problem-the reemergence of the Lost Colony has awakened both the supernatural world and Piper's very real talent as a medium. The first time she actually sees a ghost, she thinks it's a hallucination, a joke, anything but what it really is.
But she's soon confronted with evidence she can't deny. Ghosts exist, and worse, so do demons. As if that weren't enough, Asheville has a new resident demon that's intent on killing her, and a sinfully handsome stranger who says she's the only one who can destroy it.
Barely able to accept the complete reversal in her convictions, Piper must discover-and embrace-her true identity before it's too late.
I am a huge fan of The Curse Keepers Series. I actually found it through a friend who recommended Denise Grover Swank to me. I picked up her Rose Gardner mysteries and devoured them. Then I started looking for everything else she wrote. I'm a paranormal nut. Love the paranormal. So when I stumbled upon The Curse Keepers, I was in Heaven. The lost colony of Roanoke fascinated me as a child so I was doubly enamoured of the series. When it ended I was heartbroken.
So when I saw a spin-off I pumped my arm into the air and said YES!
I went into the book with a lot of expectations and every single one of them was met. I loved it. Piper stole my heart and she is going to become a favorite character of mine as she grows over the next two books. I just have that feeling.
Piper, like many others in NC, is using the reemergence of the lost colony of Roanoke as a way to scam even more people. She's convinced her clients she can see their dearly departed family members. She doesn't really believe in the things that go bump in the night.
Until she can't deny it and discovers she has a connection to the supernatural world around her. In walks Jack and Able (two of my all time favorite names so brownies points for that!) and her life is turned even more upside down than it was before.
This is a no spoilers review so I'm not going to give anything away. All I'm going to say is that this book is so worth the read. It's amazabells! You'll get sucked into her world of spooks and you won't want to leave. I was so sad when it was over! I cannot wait for the next installment to the series.
The only thing I will say is that had I not read the previous books, I may have been a little lost here or there due to the mythos of the Curse Keeper's World. I don't think it will cause new readers to be put off, but I could see where it might get a little confusing just in one or two spots. But if you've read the novels, then you will fall right back in love with that world and Piper.
I highly recommend this to anyone. Go one-click it now!!
